Learn More About You Program
Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder characterized by the formation of abnormal hemoglobin, which causes red blood cells to become rigid sickle-shaped. This can lead to blockages in blood flow resulting in pain crises, anemia, and increased risk of infections. While there is no cure, treatments such as pain management, blood transfusions, and medications can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life for those. Early diagnosis and comprehensive care are essential for better outcomes.
